Skyline R34 25 GT Decal Replacement

The  25 GT decal has aged really badly. It looks dirty and old. Luckily it was easy to find an original new one on eBay, but unfortunately we bought the wrong size one, that was too small, and had to exchange it for the larger one! Make sure you measure the size before buying, as there are two different sizes, one is smaller, the other is larger. The one we have is the larger one.

First of all, how do you go about removing the old decal?

There are multiple videos on youtube that outline how to do it, the method we chose was the 'dental floss' method.

1. Warm up the area with a heat gun, or hair dryer if you don't have a heat gun.

Check the temperature of the surface by lightly touching the surface every couple of seconds, to make sure it's not overheating.

2. Use dental floss to go under the decal and use a 'sawing' motion to separate the glue.

Clean the left over glue and dirt with methylated spirits and car polish.  It will be ready for the new one after cleaning.

 

If you noticed that the outline of the decal is still there, you are correct. Unfortunately, the previous owner did not remove the decal when the car was being painted, and the clear coat was sprayed over the decal. Now we have to make sure we stick the new one in the exact same position. This is not an issue a lot of people would have to worry about I'm sure, but you should always be ready for some bad suprises!
